Joker Series of the Month:
End of the X-Era

After 19 years, it’s the end of an era for the superhero team that have de-aged then re-aged in front of our eyes, resetting their own history while . Fox’s X-Men didn’t kick start the current comic boom, but have played a huge role in its success, grossing £5.7 billion while watching Sony’s Spiderverse and Marvel’s MCU overtake them. Some film didn’t work (Wolverine Origins, The Last Stand), some were among the best the genre has to offer (X-2, Days of Future Past).

We’re looking at the era passing with the release of X-Men Dark Phoenix, that will bring the character’s full circle and hopefully – in the hands of X-Franchise veteran Simon Kinberg – hitting franchise highs and correcting wrongs as this team prepares to move into a rebooted continuity under Disney Marvel’s MCU. We’re not dismissing New Mutants, the slight aberration that’s currently scheduled for release next spring, but you can’t beat the irony of a Phoenix farewell. Here are some of our X-offerings from Fox’s brave and resilient mutants. Bye, oh gifted ones.
